Superstar

So Karla is off on vacation gallivanting around Nevada. In her absence, I (MaryAnn) have strict orders to post awkward pictures from this evening’s performance. We went the ‘tropical vacation’ costume route which matched the horrific, agonizing heat (insert sympathy sigh here). I think we looked like those obvious tourists you see around Florida.

All in all it was a good night. A few people came up to us before the game to pump us up, wish us luck and ask if we were crazy enough to follow through. (I truly think attendance at these games is starting to climb now that ½ time entertainment has been added.) A mom from the field behind us caught word of what was going on and left her daughter’s game to watch our pathetic show. Our photographer Kim is taking more risks and actually came out on the field with us.

Megan’s team could be heard across the field encouraging us (or making fun of us really loudly, it was hard to tell.) Greg was up first. He is getting really good at these things. He whipped out three like nobody’s business. I am starting to think he could be part of the 2012 Olympic team (or at least an alternate). Who would have known? The crowd cheered their approval.

Not to be outdone, and since my cartwheels are, ahum, a little less technical as my pal Deb has pointed out, I quickly did mine and then all of a sudden felt like Molly Shannon in "Superstar". I think I was trying to make up for my talent (or lack thereof) so I started doing weird movements and then someone from the crowd shouted, “MaryAnn, do the splits!” Which I did (albeit very modified), but unfortunately I was too fast for Kim so she didn’t capture that on film.

Thanks to everyone who has been paying good money to see this! We will look back and laugh at ourselves..... Someday. :)

Week 2 - Goal Accomplished (again)!

Attention all ye who love the whirly-birds!

Thanks to everyone's continued support of the Ault Family's cartwheeling lunacy (oh yeah, and their adoption fund), MaryAnn and Greg have once again been called to the carpet for more twists and tumbles. This week's game is on Thursday night, so check back on Friday to become a witness of the mayhem.

PS... they are taking costume requests for this week. Let's not get carried away (we don't want to blow the adoption fund on costumes), but any modest suggestions you have are welcomed!

Small girls, BIG hearts

I wanted to share with you what this duo of entrepreneurs is doing to earn money to put towards the cartwheel adoption fund. These sweet and thoughtful little girls, Ethel and Myrtle (not their real names, but I’ll bet they wish they were), had a cookie and lemonade stand earlier this week. They are friends of Megan and fellow soccer teammates. For their efforts in the hot sun, they earned $22! Unbelievable!

Myrtle’s mom says they plan to do this a couple more times this summer to support the cause. Awww! (Let me also mention that the cookies were AWESOME!!! The chef, Kim, has bakery shop owners in her ancestral line!)

Ethel (on the left) is the girl who inspired the whole ‘cartwheels on the field’ idea in the first place. She’s been known to do a few cartwheels while the game is being played. :)

Thank you ladies!

Sierra's Commentary

Last night (Tuesday) MaryAnn and Greg (my parents) did cartwheels at my game for a fundraiser to adopt my 2 new siblings. It was cold, wet and miserable, but that didn’t stop them! They each did 3 cartwheels! And, if they reach enough money, they’ll do more. This just shows that they are really caring people. I mean they went through public humiliation, but they didn’t care! My teammates want them to be our mascots!

Promise Delivered - Week 1 was a Bounding Success!

Ok, so we have to tip our caps to MaryAnn and Greg. They definitely delivered on their promise this week. Aprons and oven mitts in the pouring rain?! Was anybody expecting that? That's dedication! Now, if we take a moment to think about it, if they wore these little numbers for $225 THIS week, what might they do for $500 NEXT week? Let's not hesitate and find out...ChipIn today:)

Enjoy these additional photos of the action:

Week 1 Goal Met - Cartwheels coming up...

Wow! I'm overwhelmed by the response for the Ault family adoption already! A big HUGE thank you to all of you that have contributed. I'm not sure if I'm more excited to see more cartwheels or peace of mind that MaryAnn won't have to raise Carson's weekly nanny fees to cover the cost of their adoption:)

Check back on Wednesday to see more pictures...

The moment we've all been waiting for - MaryAnn's Cartwheels

So this whole Pledges for Cartwheels campaign all started with a double dare. I dared MaryAnn to do a cartwheel in centerfield during halftime at Megan's soccer game tonight, and initially she wasn't going to do it. But, when I offered her $25 to do it, she quickly took the bait. A nearby spectator, Kim, had her camera handy and caught it all on film (see above). The crowd went wild during MaryAnn's performance, so she thought she might be willing to do it again next week if anyone else offered her $. Brandon and I decided to turn it into an official fund raiser, and three hours later, here we are.

MaryAnn and Greg will be sharing halftime duty, but only if pledges are enough to convince them to get out there again. They have some tricks up their sleeve, and may even wear costumes if weekly goals are met. Here's the game plan - to make it possible for everyone to participate, even if you can only donate a couple of bucks, we've created a two-tier deal. If either goal is met, cartwheels will be performed.

Week #1 Goal (June 11 - June 16)
Number of contributors: 10
Number of $ to date: $200

Week #2 Goal (June 17 - June 24)
Number of contributors: 15
Number of $ to date: $500

Week #3 Goal (June 25 - July 1)
Number of contributors: 20
Number of $ to date: $1000

Week #4 Goal (July 2 - July 7)
Number of contributors: 25
Number of $ to date: $1400

Week #5 Goal (July 8 - July 14)
Number of contributors: 30
Number of $ to date: $1800

Week #6 Goal (July 15 - July 22)
Number of contributors: 35
Number of $ to date: $2200

Week #7 Goal (July 23 - July 31)
Number of contributors: 40
Number of $ to date: $2500

Remember, if they reach their goal of $2500 by July 31, a YouTube video will be published. Let's help them make this happen! Also, as a friendly reminder, we're laughing with MaryAnn and Greg (not at them).

Thank you for all of your support. This is for a GREAT cause. Contact karlakayjackson@gmail.com for questions. Thanks!

Pledges for Cartwheels

Bring the Ault children home...MaryAnn and Greg will embarrass themselves performing cartwheels during half time at Megan and Sierra’s soccer games all summer to raise money for their pending adoption. The more $ raised, the more cartwheels performed. Check back weekly to see pictures from the half time performances. I promise it will be entertaining.

If their goal is met, a YouTube video will be posted...stay tuned!
